This round coffee table was built as a companion piece to a black walnut river dining table I made for the same customer. The goal was to carry over the character of the original table while creating a design suited to a smaller, circular format.

The top is made from three sections of black walnut, separated by two rivers of black epoxy. The natural live edges create irregular, flowing lines across the tabletop, while the walnut’s knots, swirling grain, and color variations give each section its own character.

Handcrafted Black Walnut Base

Rather than using a purchased metal base, I built a custom base entirely from black walnut. Four angled legs intersect around a central support, creating a sculptural arrangement that looks different from every viewing angle.

The straight lines and angular geometry of the base contrast with the natural curves of the live-edge walnut above. Using the same wood throughout also ties the two elements together visually.

The result is a one-of-a-kind coffee table that complements the original dining table while standing on its own as a distinct design.
